In Loving Memory
10/14/1955 – 6/7/2024
Age 68
On June 7th my Papi Reynaldo Valdez left this world to be with many who left before him, people who received him with open arms. He is survived by his wife Cirila Valdez whom he loved, cared for, and defended till his dying day. Three children Carmen, Reynaldo and Candia. Five grandchildren Anai, Andrea, Jayleen, Gabriel and Daisy.
Reynaldo was a strong willed, hardworking, caring man. He didn't have much schooling but there was nothing he couldn't do. He understood the value of an education and hard work. Everything he had he earned.
At a very young age he suffered a devastating stroke that according to doctors should have ended his life. He, however, still had a life to live. He fought his way back teaching us what the power of will truly is. He lived his life to the best of his ability. He cared for his grandkids by making sure they were picked up at school, fed and looked after. He enjoyed watching scary movies, anything scary on Netflix. He watched them all. Lately, he had been enjoying sci-fis like Sharknado and Megalodon. I thought they were super cheesy, but he was digging them. And of course, the classic Mexican movies with actors like Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete. He loved his music. Classic rancheras, sorry Peso Pluma you didn't make the cut. He would often sing "Que bonita luna, que bonito sol" a lyric from a song by Javier Solis. Last but not least, he LOVED his food. From the pancakes Susana would make him every morning, to the tortas and tacos, to his fascination with Jack in the Box egg rolls. And last but not least going to Novillero to enjoy some fresh oyster by the beach.
The stroke that took many of his abilities never took his essence. Now in the heavens nothing restricts any part of him. He will be missed every day. His lesson will be remembered. And one day we will be reunited. Until then he will watch over us as he did here on earth.
P.S If a parent doesn't teach their child to survive without them, they have failed as a parent. My Papi did not fail. We will visit the sadness but not live there. We will find joy and happiness. "Esta Cabron" as Papi would say.
