In Loving Memory 2/25/1953 – 7/3/2024
Age 71
Our beloved Salvador Godinez Jr. entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. To some, he was Chava or Don Chava, to work friends, he was Sal; and to his family, he was Dad. He was born on February 25, 1953, in Jamay, Jalisco, Mexico, and raised there by his parents, Salvador Godinez Sr. and Teresa Godinez, along with his two older brothers, Pedro and Luis. When he was eight years old, the family moved to Southern California, where he attended Hollenbeck Middle School and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles in 1971.
As a creative, and innovative entrepreneur, Salvador along with his brother Luis, later opened Ideal Iron Products in Santa Fe Springs, California. There, he transformed wrought iron into beautiful pieces of art in the form of gates, handrails, and any project that required a skilled welder. His dedication to help others, his loyalty to his family, and his genuine joy he found in bringing people’s visions to life inspired him to continue working until his passing.
Salvador met Virginia Guzman, at St. Isabel Church in Boyle Heights, where they both joined the choir. Their relationship flourished through their mutual love for God, and dedication to the church. In February of 1981, they married, and later welcomed their children Evelyn, Lilian, Steven, and Ivan Pedro into the world. His family was his greatest source of pride and happiness.
A musician at heart, Salvador enjoyed playing Mexican music throughout his youth, and young adult years. He and his brother Luis started a band, Los Piononos, and played for many years. Later on, he continued sharing his musical talents with his wife through their continued involvement in church choir, and sharing the love with his children. Beyond his involvement in the church choir, Salvador was deeply engaged at St. Isabel Church, always willing to volunteer and donate his time to parish activities.
Salvador is survived by his wife Virginia Godinez, children Evelyn (Victor Serna), Lilian (Juan Cifuentes), Steven and Ivan Pedro, and his brother Luis Godinez and family. He was predeceased by his parents and his oldest brother, Pedro.
Salvador's viewing and rosary are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. His funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024. All services are public and will be at St. Isabel Church in Los Angeles, California. The burial service is scheduled immediately after the mass at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. Services are being coordinated by the Los Angeles Branch of Continental Funeral Home.
